Note: Seyedeh Mitra Hashemi, is a young oral history researcher who can be called the first person showed the interdisciplinary usage of oral history methodology. She wrote her thesis for MA degree in Iranian architecture studies at Architecture Faculty of Shahid Beheshti University by the title of “Oral History in The History of Iranian Architecture: An introduction to Theoretical and Practical Discussions”. She has sent her ideas about our job as follow:
Publication of a professional weekly in electronic format is a so valuable job that its appreciation isn't possible here and I as the author of this note do not also deserve it. Therefore, in this short chance I just intend to state bravo to the staff of this journal and just proceed with details that perhaps could enhance its current expansion and development.
After publication and release of 100th issue of this journal a treasure of information is gathered and some measures should be taken for the easy application of the information. Preparing historical archive is a necessary issue for a journal but the retrieval of information is difficult. Preparing thematic archive for the journal is a nice solution for searching previous material and is also the first step in vivid classification of the journal contents that could assist in preparing the contents of future numbers of journal and will also reveal the weak and strong points. What is the most desirable to read for the writer about the journal content and is proceeding toward not only its republish but also the production of Persian content, is the materials that are translated from other languages and informs the Persian reader on the latest news on the field of oral history and the comments of the experts. I hope that in the future numbers the contents of this section would be followed more regularly and purposefully and be selected and translated with great care. With the hope that this section create the base for being more familiar with the concepts and principles of oral history in the west and clarification and edition of the same category of contents in Iranian Oral History.
Finally we should consider the e-publication of oral history weekly as an important step in establishing a virtual connection between the majority of research institutions and scholars that are engaged with the field of Iranian Oral History. Perhaps this first strong and stable step forward could assist in making the connection even stronger and developing the journal and following establishing virtual association the possibility of more interaction could be provided.
The accomplishments of such an association are a lot and here we just mention just a few. For instance one of the benefits of such association could be creating a circle for discussion and an opportunity to continue valuable discussions that often left unfinished due to lack of time. Such an opportunity is very valuable for the students like me who the chance of being a mentor is rarely provided. Also establishing a virtual or semi-virtual library especially of foreign important resources on the theoretical and practical issues of oral history which makes it easy to access them for researchers in this field and also be the onset of the cooperation of researchers for translation jobs and publication of these materials could be valuable.
At the end, I express my thankfulness to all staff of Oral History Weekly and wish them success.
