Hassan Vaqaye'ei, oral history of 5o years of Iran's wrestling

صفحه نخست شماره 202

The meeting of the sports authorities of Mazandaran Province and the city of Sari with a veteran wrestler caused us to become familiar with a man who is considered the living history of the wrestling of Iran and the world. An illness caused "Hassan Vaqaye'ei" to host the sports friends and managers in recent days. The Director-General of Sports and Youth and the Head of Sari's Sports Department along with a number of sports veterans were among several groups who visited the living history of Iran and the world's wrestling in the past 50 years, listening to his memoirs and talks. In addition to years of presence at the national level, Hassan Vaqaye'ei was the coach of the Greco-Roman team of Mazandaran Province, grooming many wrestlers in Sari's famous clubs. When you listen to the words of this man, more than enjoying interesting historical memoirs and points regarding sports events and well-known heroes such as Emam-Ali Habibi and Abdullah Movahhed, you will be surprised by his precise explanation of the events and incidents. This old man explains the events of the past 20 or 30 or 40 years so precisely and delicately as if they have happened recently.
Hassan Vaqaye'ei can be considered the living archive of 50 years of Iran and the world's wrestling; an archive which is of high value in wrestling techniques and the science of coaching in addition to the benefits of historiography. In the meeting, he said that he has registered in a handwritten form all individual and group events of the wrestling sport and hope to publish them. One of his intimate friends says due to his interest in studying and informing of sports events, he has an archival room of sports press and it seems that this has caused his memory to be boosted.
It seems that his only wish is to publish his book which is of great importance for the sport of the country as well as the province. Of course, the Director-General of Sports and Youth Habib Hossein Zadegan in the meeting expressed hope to help publish the book. He also called on the province's media community to pay more attention to people like "Hassan Vaqaye'ei".
We hope that the book is published with the follow-up of Hassan Vaqaye'ei's friends and the Director-General of Sports and Youth in order to be a model for the youth.
