Collection of articles by the outstanding Italian Iranologist released

IBNA- In commemoration of the tenth anniversary of death of Umberto Sheraton, the prominent Italian Iranologist, department of Archaeology of Sapienza University of Rome (The largest university in Europe) released the collection of his articles.
According to IBNA correspondent quoting from the public relations office of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization, Professor Umberto Scerato, born in November 1928 in Rome, got his doctorate degree in archaeology from the University of Rome at the age of 24. He volunteered to teach at the same university for 5 years as an assistant professor. He actively participated in archaeological excavations inside Italy at different archaeological sites in that country. Later on, in 1954, he participated in one of the archaeological missions of Italy in Anatolia and there he got acquainted with oriental studies and carried on his activities in the same field for the rest of his life. In 1957, he became familiar with the Iranian history before and after Islam and was so attracted to it that he decided to choose Iranian archaeology and history of art as his research subject and activities. Scerato started his first archaeological mission with the Italian archaeological excavations in the western part of Afghanistan and discovered the first remnants related to the palace of one of the great dynasties ruling there after Islam (Ghaznavids) and presented it to the public. This discovery was a brilliant success recorded in his file of achievements.
