 |
The Center for Examination of Historical Documents of Iran's Intelligence Ministry has recently released a new title on the works and life of Hujatoleslam Gholamhussein Jami according to his SAVAK turnkeys. Arranged in 312 pages, the book is the latest volume of a series entitled as "Imam's Comrades Viewed by SAVAK Agents". Gholamhussein Jami was born in 1925 in a religious family in the southern city of Tangestan in Bushehr Province. In 1948 he moved to the southwestern city of Abadan where he studied under Ayatollah Sheilk Abdolrasoul Ghaemi, the founder of Abadan seminary. Later on, Jami went to the Iraqi city of Najaf to complete his studies. He left his education unfinished and returned home in 1953, despite his love for learning the Islamic theology. During the years that followed he learned about Imam Khomeini's campaign and joined his anti-Shah cause which led to the overthrow of the Pahlavi regime in 1979. Jami played an important role in Abadan during the June 05, 1963 uprising. He revealed the crimes of the Pahlavi regime against civilians during the uprising and shed light on Imam's cause as it was gaining momentum. In the 70s he became a prominent figure among Imam's comrades in the city of Abadan because of his fiery sermons he constantly delivered against the regime under direct pressure from its agents. Among the guests who attended his speeches were figures like Martyr Morteza Motahhari and Dr. Mohammad Mofatteh. Jami was repeatedly captured by SAVAK agents who caused continual troubles for his family to put more pressure on his activities. He was one of the organizers of a ceremony held in honor to the martyred son of Imam Khomeini, Mostafa. There is ample SAVAK document that relay the capture of Jami by SAVAK agents which led to numerous strikes by oil industry workers in the city of Abadan. As the Islamic Revolution became more eminent, Jami moved to Tehran to be directly in contact with the latest developments. He was among the clerics who stages a sit-in in Tehran University Mosque in 1979. During the sint-in, he was accompanied with figures like Ayatollah Khamenei (the supreme leader), Ayatollah Fazel Lankarani, Martyr Morteza Motahhari, Ayatollah Beheshti, etc. who gathered in the mosque to protest the regime's ban on Imam Khomeini's entrance to the country after years of exile. Also during the 8-year Sacred Defense, Hujatoleslam Jami resisted the Iraqi invaders and never left the city. He persevered to hold the Friday Prayers in the city of Abadan during the harshest war times. Finally after years of resistance and revolutionary endeavors he died in 2008 at the age of 83 and was buried in the city of Najaf, Iraq.
