NLAI Completes Major Oral History Project of 2nd Pahlavids’ Figures

The National Library and Archives Organization of the Islamic Republic of Iran (NLAI) has concluded a massive 14-year oral and visual history project with 57 key 2nd Pahlavids’ political, cultural, military and royal figures and decision-makers. The project focuses on the lessons that could be learned from 58 years of the Pahlavi reign over Iran before the victory of the Islamic Revolution, and its digital version will be unveiled presently by the organization. The project entails hundreds of hours of video and audio interviews with the personages reviewing the Pahlavi regime's history. The project was carried out by a group of historical researchers headed by Hussein Dehpashi and was financed by numerous state-run and private institutions inside and outside of Iran. More than 2500 hours of interview have boon conducted with 620 prominent figures. In order to enrich the project about 20000 pieces of documents have been included to the published books based on the transcribed interviews. The interviews include figures like Hussein Nasr (Farah Diba's office head and the chancellor of Arya Mehr University), Nasir Assar (then-deputy prime minister, head of the organization of Oghaf, and deputy foreign minister of Iran during the Pahlavi regime), Khalil Shojaei (then-commander in chief of intelligence), Amir Houshang Arian-pour (then-deputy commander of navy), Abdollah Azar Barzin (then-deputy head and commander of the air force), Alinaghi Alikhani (then-minister of economy, director general of the foreign affairs administration of SAVAK, advisor to Tehran Commercial Chamber, then-chancellor of Tehran University), Abdolmajad Majidi (then-ministerial advisor, former head of the Organization of Budget and Planning), and Akbar Etemad (then-head of the Education Planning Organization, founder of Iran's Organization of Atomic Energy, and Head of the Bou Ali University). Four volumes of this series were revealed on 16th of December 2014 with the attendance of interested researches in a ceremony in Iranian national; Library. These four books are based on the memories of Seyyed Hussein Nasr, Abdollah Azar Barzin, Alinaghi Alikhani and Daruish Homayoun.
