Critical Damages in Archiving

صفحه نخست شماره 185

Necessity of Organs’ Oral History Recording
Iran Book News Agency (IBNA) – Recording the oral history of different organizations and institutions is an essential duty, Reza Salehi Amiri, head of National Library and Archives of IR Iran, said.
National Library and Archives of IR Iran has defined eight strategic plans to recognize its ends and the rout to them. The strategic plans are the plans and ways of our endeavors toward the light, to know our ideals and to do our best for reaching them, he said.
There are critical damages in archiving in Iran. First, there are different policies toward archiving which suffers interfering regulations. This is mainly because our ideal and principle goals in this field has not been specified and composed, Salehi Amiri said.
The organizations archives are not defined according to national capacities. This is the second damage. Our national archives enjoy a vast capacity, but the proper place of archives in Iran has not been achieved because of insufficient funds, he said.
The third damage is lack of coherent and efficient management in national archives. Today in the world, the archives are defined for the sake of archives, but some shortcomings are seen in this matter in Iran. Our managers have not fully apprehended their mission in this field and a solution needed to be found for that, Salehi Amiri said.
There are Legal challenges too.  Laws and lawmaking has not specified clear lines and authority for archiving centers or those specified are not practical, he said.
Lack of coherent and efficient programs in archiving centers is the next damage. Millions of pages of document are produced in different organizations, yet digitalization is strange to us. Digitalization should be paid its appropriate attention and considered in planning, based on impressive developments achieved in the world, he said.
Drawing false borders have questioned our operation. We should reach to rationality that we are all branches of a tree called national archiving. Believing that we are all organs of the same body will change our look and will lead to development and progress, head of National Library and Archives of IR Iran, said.
We should necessarily have a long term strategic plan but it should be started with short steps. Our goals cannot be achieved through day-to-day plans. In order of raising our knowledge in archiving, groups of talented individuals should be sent abroad or some experts invited into the country, he said.
Memory of the world is a project executed by UNESCO through which the spiritual heritages of different nations are preserved. We have registered 7 works in regional and 42 works in global parts of this project and our endeavors in this part would be continued, he said.
On the other hand, recording oral history of the organizations and institutions is essential. No organ should be considered insignificant in this regard. Each organ should have a precise plan for recording its oral history. In here I announce our readiness to send our oral history groups for training and performing oral history programs in various organizations, so that the memories of the present managers to be preserved for the future generations. This would be one of the lasting works in the country, Salehi Amiri said.
