Oral History Memories should Be Published in Vernacular

The Memories of Two Ardebili Adolescent to Be Composed
Sasan Nategh, oral history researcher, is composing the memories of two Ardebili combatants who have spent their adolescence in war fronts. “It is essential to publish the memories in vernacular besides Persian”, he said.
“I am writing and composing the memories of two Arebili combatants who have been in war fronts in their adolescence in two separate works”.
“Kalamollah Akbarzadeh is one of these two, who has gone to war after his own insistence in 13. He was dispatched to Kurdistan province initially in 1980”, this researcher said. “I am preparing his memories of 1983”.
“Humor is the important part of Akbarzadeh’s memories. As a teenager, war scene was more fun for him than for adults”, Nategh said.
“Yavar Esmaeilnejad is the other combatant whose memories are being prepared. He manipulated his ID card to pretend himself older and left home to war fronts in 13, too. Everybody in Ardebil knows him as one who has good oral memories of those periods”, he said.
“They were dispatched differently so they had no common memories and preparing the memories of two youths who has spent their adolescence in war fronts simultaneously, was accidental”, the author of “The Oder of Soil, the Flavor of Mine” said.
“An important point is that the reader should be impressed by studying a combatant’s memories”, Nategh said. “If a book does not impress the reader, it has been poorly written, I think. I have tried in these two interviews to explain the atmosphere of war operations, Basij bases, religious rituals and also environmental and geographical specifications of Ardebil in those times”.
“There is no personification and suspension in memory writing, unlike story writing, but it is a good opportunity to elaborate the memories in details. I used oral history techniques in these two works but they will be published as memories”, the creator of “The Farmer and Magic Journey” said.
The interviews were recorded in Turkish but they will be published in Persian, the formal language of Iran, to have more recipients.
He pointed out the necessity of publishing memories in their original vernacular. “Turkish memories belong to a special language and racial realm and have their own specifications. Some interesting and humor points of the memories will lose their attractions after translation. The tone of the narrator should be felt in the book too”, this story writer said.
Those memories will be published in two separate books. There has been no contract signed for this part yet, but my books have been already published by Mehr and Sarir publications.
