Assessed: Untold Stories: First Days of Sacred Defense

صفحه نخست شماره 178

A session was held here in Tehran in assessment of " Untold Stories: First Days of Sacred Defense" by Ahmad Hosseinia on the sidelines of the 5th National Exhibition of Sacred Defense Books.
A number of Sacred Defense researchers, commanders and literary critics attended the session including the book's writer and Brigadier General Sadeghi Gouya, ex-chancellor of the army university and manager of the administrative forces division of the army.
"Most of the Sacred Defense books overlook the happenings of the first days of the war, and sometimes give it an inimical review," said the book's writer addressing the session.
Hosseinia is a veteran writer who mostly writes on family and psychology. However, he was called on by martyr Sayyad Shirazi, when he served as deputy chief of stall of the armed forces, to pen books about the war and address various dimensions of the war.
The retired army officer said the first two years of the Iraq-imposed war on Iran are mostly overlooked by the Sacred Defense books which have so far been written, and need to be highlighted as long as they carry with them the roots of most of the achievements Iran mustered in the following years of the war.
"Untold Stories: First Days of Sacred Defense" focuses on the first two months of the war during which army divisions played a significant role to resist Iraqi invaders on Iranian borders and cities. It was the collective work of the army, IRGC (Islamic Revolution Gourds Corps) and the people that scuppered Saddam's ambitions to conquer Khuzestan and topple Imam Khomeini in a week's time.
"The imposed war should not be deemed as a sided event in the history of Iran," said Cmdr. Gouya during the session. "The Iraqi army was really strong but what prevented them from seizing Khuzestan in the announced three days was the unity and resistance of army and IRGC forces as well as the civilians who assisted them. The war was the golden age of the Iranian nation."
He also underlined the lack of a comprehensive list of references and index of titles and names which are needed for the book to become a perfect reference book for the interested researchers of the field.
How students of the military university acted during the first days of the war, and details about the border clashes between Iranian and Iraqi forces are some of the topics focused upon in the book as well. The work also entails pictures of that section of the war in the end.
