IBNA- Director General of Iran's Book House Najaf Ali Mirzaei gave details about launching new research quarterlies tasked with developing book criticism.
According to IBNA correspondent, at the meeting, “Evaluating the Monthly Journals of Iran's Book House” which was held on Tuesday, June 1 Mirzaei said: “Almost two billion rials (about US$670,000) with their being spent [in the former administration] for journals which were whether stockpiled or distributed free of charge.” During this meeting Iran's Book House’s Director General described three significant events which await his institute: changing the time schedule for the publication of monthly journals of IBH, establishing the House of Book Editors and preparation of the draft for revising Iranian book awards. He further described the situation of the Iranian book as not suitable:” Unfortunately the scene of Iranian publication has been dominated by pulp fictions and worthless, unscientific books which are constantly compiled.” Elsewhere in his remarks, Mirzaei referred to the issue of crisis in book criticism: “Despite enjoying a considerable budget, our monthly journals in IBH have not achieved their goals. For example, our monthly journal on philosophy has been almost comprised of translations and lacks book reviews, as a matter of fact, it has turned to special issues on introducing the international scientific figures!” “We are going to change this trend and give priority to book reviews and critical essays which will be published from September in specialized quarterlies,” he added.
