Translator of Polish Literature Dies at 81

Roushan Vaziri, translator of Polish literary works into Persian, died at the age of 81 as she succumbed to death by a tumor in a US hospital. The news of her death was broken by her daughter through emails to friends and relatives last Monday. Roshan was the granddaughter of Lady Astar Abadi, a prominent activist during the Constitution era and founder of the first girls' school in Iran. She was also niece to Bozorg Alavi and Colonel Ali Naghi Vaziri, both prominent literati figures in Iran's contemporary era; Vaziri was also the founder of Iran's music academy. She translated numerous Polish works into Persian including "Raging Fever of Latin America" and "Small Lessons about Big Subjects" which sparked a lot of attention in the Iranian book market. The Heavenly Lady, a collection of short stories by Polish writers, was another work she rendered into Persian.

Book Reveals Resistance of Cleric from Abadan

The Center for Examination of Historical Documents of Iran's Intelligence Ministry has recently released a new title on the works and life of Hujatoleslam Gholamhussein Jami according to his SAVAK turnkeys. Arranged in 312 pages, the book is the latest volume of a series entitled as "Imam's Comrades Viewed by SAVAK Agents". Gholamhussein Jami was born in 1925 in a religious family in the southern city of Tangestan in Bushehr Province. In 1948 he moved to the southwestern city of Abadan where he studied under Ayatollah Sheilk Abdolrasoul Ghaemi, the founder of Abadan seminary.

Book on contemporary oral history of Iran unveiled in Tehran

TEHRAN – The first four volumes of “Oral History of Iran during the Reign of Pahlavi II” was unveiled at the National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI) in Tehran on Tuesday. The books are a part of a huge research project on the oral history of Iran under Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, which has been conducted by Hossein Dehbashi. The event was attended by several officials including NLAI Director Reza Salehi-Amiri and cultural advisor to President Hassan Rouhani Hessameddin Ashena. The published volumes concern the reign of Mohammadreza Pahlavi (1941-1979). At the ceremony, Salehi-Amiri pointed to the importance of oral history for the generation born after the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

Oman, Iran sign pact for research and restoration of historical documents

Cooperation between Iran and Oman in the area of historical documents is a step towards utilising the untapped potential for cultural cooperation, said an Iranian official. Dr Hamad bin Mohammed Al Dhoyani, chairman of Oman's National Records and Archives Authority, and Dr Seyyed Reza Salehi Amiri, head of the National Library and Archives Organisation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Muscat on Tuesday. "The MoU calls for the exchange of experience and expertise in the area of historical documents, especially restoration of these documents to save them from degradation," Dr Mohammad Soltanifar, advisor to Dr Amiri, told Times of Oman in an interview.
