An Introduction till English ‘Da’

The English translation of ‘Da’, by American translator Paul Sprachman, will be given to Mazda Publications after the translator finishes writing its introduction. IBNA: Paul Sprachman, who has recently finished rendering ‘Da’ into English, is writing an introduction for the book. Sprachman started translating ‘Da’ some five years ago. He visited Iran and met with the book’s narrator Zahra Husseini, in order to present a correct translation. 'Da' contains recollections by Seyyedeh Zahra Husseini of the time when the Iraqi army captured Khorramshahr in the early days of the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war. It is a true-to-life story of a teenager who experienced the early days of the war in Khorramshahr.

Book to be Unveiled on Leader’s Intellectual Innovations

‘Ijtihad and Intellectual Innovations of Ayatollah Khamenei’ will be released in Persian as an account on the views of Muslim and non-Muslim thinkers about the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. IBNA: This will be Soroush Publications’ 1600th title which will be unveiled next week in a ceremony in the presence of prominent Islamic thinkers like Ayatollah Haeri Shirazi. In 2011, a conference was held in Lebanon entitled as Ijtihad and Intellectual Innovations of Ayatollah Khamenei in which scholars from Iran and various other Islamic countries presented their views and articles about the Leader’s views on various fields. The book encompasses a select number of the articles presented during the conference.

The changing stature of oral history as evidence

In November of 2007, the T’silhqot’in First Nation’s Aboriginal title case before the BC Supreme Court came to a close, largely in favour of the First Nation. Their Aboriginal title to about half of their claimed lands was recognized, and it was acknowledged that their Aboriginal rights on this land had been infringed without justification. It was also found the BC forestry regulations do not apply on their Aboriginal title lands. To win their case for the existence of their Aboriginal title to their traditional territory, the T'silhqot'in First Nation relied on the oral history testimony of their community’s most knowledgeable members. In Justice Vickers’ decision he gave careful consideration, not only to the oral history evidence, but also to the issue of oral history as evidence. As a result, the decision in the T'silhqot'in case is one of the most clear and thorough treatments of oral history as evidence that any court in Canada has yet provided.

Call for Presentations

This inter- and multi-disciplinary conference aims to examine, explore and critically engage with the issues and implications created by the massive exploitation of digital technologies for inter-human communication and examine how online users form, archive and de-/code their memories in cybermedia environments, and how the systems used for production influence the way the users perceive and work with the memory. In particular the conference will encourage equally theoretical and practical debates which surround the cultural contexts of memory co-/production, re-/mediation, en-/decoding, dissemination, personal/mass interpretation and preservation.

Conflict with SAVAK
After the complete separation from Mohsen Tarighat in the winter of 1976, I increased my contacts with Meysam and his friends. I had to be more careful about myself in this new condition. So, I always had cyanide capsule and Colt Pistol 7.65mm along with me. I would never put away my Colt even when I was asleep. I would put it under my pillow.
